Replacement Of Mercury Fillings
There has been much debate about the safety of Amalgam fillings and there is now scientific evidence about Mercury (dental amalgam), and its associated risks - Mercury is the second most toxic metal known! It is possible for Mercury to leak out of Amalgam fillings and if not eliminated, is stored in the tissues of the body, particularly the Kidneys, Liver, Brain and Digestive system.
A short, very interesting video that shows the rapid damage to the nerve cells of the brain after the introduction of minute amounts of mercury can be viewed at

Some Common Symptoms of Amalgam Poisoning Are:
- Psychological problems - irritability, memory loss, depression, anxiety, insomnia, inability to concentrate;
- Gastrointestinal problems - fungal infections, diarrhoea, colitis;
- Neurological problems - frequent chronic headaches, dizziness, twitching of muscles;
- Cardiovascular problems - changes in blood pressure, irregular heart beat, feeling of heaviness in chest;
- Respiratory problems - shortness of breath, shallow breathing, asthma, bronchitis.
Amalgam/silver filling poisoning is also believed to cause allergies, bleeding and inflammation of the gums, a metallic taste in the mouth, mouth ulcers and inflammation, sore throat, impaired vision and weakens our immune system - making us more prone to other diseases.
Safe Replacement of Amalgam/Silver Fillings
Whether your motivation for replacement is for improvement of your health or cosmetic reasons, it is highly recommended that you follow our procedure for safe removal, especially if replacing several fillings over a short period of time, rather than when we are replacing individual fillings as and when required due to decay etc.
What Can You Expect From US?
First, we will listen to you and assess your concerns and problems. We will then assess the health of your mouth, establishing which fillings may need more immediate replacement due to decay etc and which you would like to have replaced for other reasons. Richard can then use his knowledge of Applied Kinesiology (A.K) muscle testing to help determine if you have an intolerance to Amalgam and establish the relative importance of removing each particular filling.
A.K is also used to customise a nutritional supplement support program for you, taken before, during and after treatment. This will help the body dispose of stored Mercury and any new Mercury vapour arising during the removal process.
We will follow the protocol for the removal of Amalgam fillings as issued by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, the essence of which is as follows:
- Use of copious amounts of cold water - this stops the Amalgam heating up, resulting in Mercury vapour being released.
- Use of high power suction to remove this water together with any Mercury vapour.
- Use of a surgical mask over your nose. We encourage you to breathe through your nose so that you will not inhale any Mercury vapour.
- The Amalgam fillings are removed in as large pieces as possible so that it is not 'powdered' more than absolutely necessary.
- We will keep you as clean as possible and we use Selenium mouth wash to help in this as it is a very effective Mercury 'sponge'.
- Our surgery has a specially designed clean air filtration system which among other things, removes Mercury vapour.
